The Team That Gives Back: Jornaya Raises Over $50K for Charity

Jornaya is committed to making a positive difference in the world, and we are proud to support efforts that help. We feel very fortunate for our successes in 2020, culminating with merging into Verisk in December. We also recognize there are many others who have been, and continue to be, impacted from a year of great change and challenges. To close out 2020, our Founder & CEO Ross Shanken challenged the former Jornaya Board and shareholders, as well as Jornayans, past and present, to give back to the community.

The challenge was to see if we could raise a meaningful amount to support: (1) A local needs-based organization; in this time of great need for so many, we felt this would provide immediate help to people in need of basic necessities; and (2) An organization to further our commitment to diversity, equity & inclusion in America. These are the organizations we chose for the challenge:

  • PhilAbundance: Philabundance is the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger-relief organization, driving hunger from our communities today and ending hunger for good. Philabundance serves more than 90,000 people each week, 30% of whom are children, 16% of whom are seniors, and other people served include college students, single parents, and the working class.
    Amount Raised: $21,115
  • Equal Justice Initiative: Committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.
    Amount Raised: $31,749

“As many have said: Giving is not just about making a donation, it’s about making a difference,” said Jornaya CEO Ross Shanken. “This is especially true in our current environment and I couldn’t be more proud of our team, past and present, former board members, and shareholders for their contributions.”
